Brexit – How will this impact my portfolio?
As we have discussed in the past, Private Wealth Adviser’s primary goal is capital preservation. In this regard we have been anticipating increased volatility in the share and bond markets for some time and have steadily been reducing your portfolio’s exposure to shares, and increasing the levels of cash over the past 1-2 years. We have also been recommending fund managers that are not limited in the level of cash that they can hold in a portfolio, which has allowed a number of the managers we recommend to move large positions into cash during this volatile period. Lastly we have made use of local share managers that are able to position their portfolios to protect capital in a falling market through “shorting” the markets. These are all steps that we have taken in an effort to limit portfolio declines in times of market stress, and will continue to follow this approach until such time as we feel shares are once again reasonably priced. When markets do get back to a level where we think they are undervalued and offer suitable buying opportunities we will be in touch to recommend appropriate changes. In the meantime if you have any specific concerns during this period of uncertainty, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We have shown several links below to some of the managers in your portfolio so you can read through their publications around Brexit, click on the fund manager names below.
Recent personnel changes
Darnielle Silver has joined PWA after returning from living in the UK for 17 years where she worked in a similar client management role, and brings with her a wealth of local and global industry knowledge. Amanda previously held this role and moved to Akaroa late last year to run her own boutique lodge accommodation with her husband.
Eloise Smit, our most recent recruit has joined us from a global brokerage firm and also adds a high level of client management experience to our team with her knowledge and passion for the industry. PWA is indeed fortunate to have secured the services of both Darnielle and Eloise. Maryclare Steel is still with us for two days per week.
As always, please feel free to contact us on 09 308 2975 if you wish to discuss further.
